Nevertheless, API key wouldn't help you, you can't use it to update theme, if you don't have your domain registered in Yootheme account.

The API key is for automatic updates and access to 429 online installable layouts on your sites backend.
The only way to get those is to subscribe or have a VERY GOOD FRIEND who wants to spend A LOT OF TIME installing each on on a dummy site, saving and downloading each one for you.
