What's new?

PostgreSQL database support. Akeeba Backup now supports backing up and restoring sites using PostgreSQL databases, in addition to MySQL-compatible databases (MySQL, MariaDB, Percona). If your Joomla site runs on PostgreSQL you can now take full backups and restore them to another PostgreSQL server. Please note that cross-platform restoration is not supported: backups taken from a MySQL site must be restored to a MySQL server, and backups taken from a PostgreSQL site must be restored to a PostgreSQL server.

There is absolutely no functional change whatsoever between 10.3.0, 10.3.1, and 10.3.2. The only difference is that in the latter versions the PostgreSQL database backup engine code has been heavily (and even more heavily) obfuscated. This is due to Avast and Norton Antivirus ERRONEOUSLY reporting the original version as having a PHP backdoor. The problem is that these AV engines do not really understand what the PHP code does. They simply saw code which makes a copy of a database –which is exactly what a database backup engine does!– and assumed, rather idiotically, it does so to steal information.

Defeating this erroneous detection was… quite simple. The code which is executing pg_dump was split out to different files. The file names are descriptive Greek words translitarated to English. The code comments, which also triggered false positives, were translated to formal 1950s Greek. And for the cherry on top, the name of the environment variable used to pass the PostgreSQL password is obfuscated with a 2000-year-old algorithm: a substitution cipher. You know, the same you used as a kid. So much for state of the art (lol!) "heuristic threat detection algorithms". You can't make that stuff up...

Changelog

Miscellaneous changes

  • Obfuscate the PostgreSQL dump engine EVEN MORE AGGRESSIVELY so that certain antivirus don't throw a false positive.

Akeeba Backup for Joomla! 10.3.5

Released on: 2026-06-17 19:47 CDT

This release adds translations for several languages and addresses two high-priority issues.

New translations

We now include language files for Greek (el-GR), French (fr-FR), German (de-DE), Spanish (es-ES), Portuguese (pt-PT), and Italian (it-IT). These are machine-translated, which puts them on par with what we have historically received from community translators — but with the added benefit of being complete and consistent throughout the entire interface.

BackBlaze B2 v4 API

If you use BackBlaze B2 for cloud storage, Akeeba Backup now uses the v4 API. No action is required on your part; your existing B2 credentials continue to work.

OVH file scanner false positive for kickstart.txt

Some OVH-hosted sites have a broken file scanner that incorrectly flags kickstart.txt (the Kickstart documentation file included in the backup archive) as malicious. Akeeba Backup now obfuscates this file to prevent false positives on these hosts.

Changelog

New features

  • Translations for Greek (el-GR), French (fr-FR), German (de-DE), Spanish (es-ES), Portuguese (pt-PT), and Italian (it-IT)

Bug fixes

  • [HIGH] DirectFTP would not work due to setting erroneous directory permissions
  • [HIGH] The Site Transfer Wizard was not working

Miscellaneous changes

  • Obfuscate kickstart.txt so that broken file scanners (OVH) don't cause problems by misidentifying it as "malicious"
  • Switched to BackBlaze B2 v4 API

Akeeba Backup for Joomla! 10.3.6Stable

Released on: 2026-06-22 04:57 CDT

This release adds a new Site Transfer Wizard feature and fixes several high-priority cloud storage issues affecting Box, Dropbox, OneDrive, and BackBlaze B2.

Site Transfer Wizard: transfer any archive on the server

The Site Transfer Wizard can now transfer any backup archive present on your server, not just the most recent one. Previously you were forced to take a new backup if you wanted to transfer an older archive.

Cloud storage bug fixes

Two high-priority bugs are fixed in this release:
  • Box, Dropbox, and OneDrive were storing uploaded files under the local temporary filename rather than the correct archive filename. This means previously uploaded files may appear with incorrect names in your cloud storage. Files uploaded with 10.3.6 onward will use the correct names.
  • BackBlaze B2 uploads failed entirely when using a bucket-restricted API key (one scoped to a specific bucket rather than the entire account).
Several medium-priority issues are also addressed: token refresh race conditions for Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive; an incorrect credential being validated for RackSpace CloudFiles; an access token leaking in Dropbox public download URLs; broken signed download URLs for OneDrive for Business on the Microsoft Graph API; S3 v4 pre-signed URL failures (403) on path-style non-AWS hosts; and duplicate bucket names in Google Storage pre-signed URLs (403).

Changelog

New features

  • Site Transfer Wizard: transfer any backup archive present on the server, not just the latest one (gh-36)

Bug fixes

  • [HIGH] Box, Dropbox, OneDrive stored files under the local temp name
  • [HIGH] Uploads failed when using a bucket-restricted BackBlaze B2 key
  • [LOW] BackBlaze cancelUpload sent the request body as form-data, not JSON
  • [LOW] BackBlaze downloadFileById used the wrong API path (404)
  • [LOW] Box folder listing paginated incorrectly
  • [LOW] Site Transfer Wizard: Dark mode layout issues (white-on-white in upload stats area)
  • [LOW] WebDAV options() dropped capabilities from repeated DAV headers
  • [MEDIUM] Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive token refresh raced expiry
  • [MEDIUM] Dropbox public download URL embedded the access token
  • [MEDIUM] Google Storage pre-signed URLs duplicated the bucket name (403)
  • [MEDIUM] OneDrive for Business signed download URL was broken on Graph
  • [MEDIUM] RackSpace CloudFiles validated the username, not the API key

Akeeba Backup Pro 10.4.0 for Joomla - Changelog

This release adds a couple of small CLI and JSON API improvements, announces the deprecation of the legacy JSON API v2 and of Secret Word authentication on the v3 API, and fixes several bugs — most notably a JSON API regression that broke every POST request and a split archive issue that could fail post-processing.

JSON API v2 and Secret Word authentication are deprecated
JSON API v2 and Secret Word authentication on the v3 JSON API are now deprecated. Both will be removed in version 11.0, planned for October 2027. If you use either of these, please migrate to the v3 JSON API with Joomla! user credentials before then.

POST requests to the v3 JSON API always failed
Any client sending a POST request to the v3 JSON API endpoint received an error instead of a valid response. GET requests were unaffected. This is now fixed.

JSON API: non-Super-User accounts can now use the API
The v3 JSON API now supports authenticating as a Joomla! user who is not a Super User, as long as that user has been granted the necessary Akeeba Backup privileges.

Split archives could fail post-processing
When a split archive's data happened to end exactly on a part boundary, backup created an extra, empty final part. Post-processing (uploading to remote storage) then failed with a “Missing input parameters” error. This is now fixed.

akeeba😛rofile:import can now target a specific profile
The akeeba😛rofile:import CLI command accepts a new --profile option to import into a specific profile ID, and a --force option to overwrite an existing profile instead of always creating a new one.

Other changes
  • Log files are no longer created with a plain .log extension. When a .log.php file would be blocked by the server, backup now falls back to a plain .php extension instead of .log, keeping log contents from being served as plain text.
  • Failed JSON API authentication now fires the onUserLoginFailure event, so login-failure plugins (e.g. brute-force protection) see these attempts.
  • akeeba:sysconfig:get and akeeba:sysconfig:set now report a proper error when a required argument is missing.
  • CLI commands now correctly treat their mandatory arguments as mandatory, and the CLI command reference no longer documents positional arguments as --options. akeeba:backup:alternate, which was missing from the reference, has been added.
  • The OAuth2 token refresh request now sends the correct cache-busting headers.
  • Manage Backups and the Site Transfer Wizard now show the correct path when the output directory is missing or outside open_basedir.
  • The Options page's “Check for failed backups” section header now shows translated text instead of the raw language key.
  • Corrected a handful of English, French, and Italian strings that displayed a literal backslash before an apostrophe, and translated three previously untranslated Site Transfer Wizard strings.
